Coastal Plains High School is
part of a network of Completion Special Schools across Georgia. Mountain
Educational High School was founded in 1993 and has 18 sites located in North
Georgia. Foothills Regional High School was replicated from MountainEd in 2014
and has 16 sites located across the center of the state.
In 2017, Foothills opened sites in Glynn County and Candler
County. In March 2017, Glynn and Candler were approved to stand alone as
Coastal Plains High School. In August, Coastal Plains opened two additional
sites in Long and Wayne County. By September, two more sites were opened in
Lowndes and Vidalia.
At
the beginning of 2018, Coastal opened four more sites in Camden, Jeff
Davis, Liberty, and Screven. In 2019,
Coastal grew to fourteen total sites by adding Coffee, Colquitt, Evans, and
Grady.
Due
to the increasing number of sites Coastal Plains divided into Region locations
with designated support staff including Regional Coordinators. We now had the
staff and resources we needed to make improvements across all sites.
At
the beginning of 2021, Coastal moved from under the State Charter School
Commission to the Department of Education. In September of 2021, Coastal Plains
opened our fifteenth site in Bulloch County. In 2022, Coastal opened a satellite
site in McIntosh County.
